Gay Daddy Days Event Ptown

Last year, Age Appropriate blogger RobHeartsDH traveled to Provincetown, MA, to create a fun video about Provincetown Bear Week - something we'd heard great things about, but had never actually experienced. He didn't know what he'd find there, but it turned into a gripping expose entitled "Why Do Bears Woof?" Nobody knew.

All woofs aside, he loved the experience (and P-town in general) and discovered that the week is part of the bigger bear movement that's now gone global. And while we have a great many friendly bears here on this site, we wondered if we could make something for the bigger community - something for gay daddies of all stripes.

Enter Daddy Days! This year, we're proud to present the first-ever Daddy Days in Provincetown, starting this Saturday, August 10-17. We've always loved daddies and now we hear they're the new sexy gay niche. So...HERE WE GO!

It all starts this weekend. Our gracious host is the recently refurbished Crew's Quarters, located right on Commercial Street - P-town's main strip! We'll have info there, free stuff, and they're hosting a meet and greet on Wednesday, August 14, at 7pm (...

Behind the Candelabra Gay Michael Douglas

Yeah, Daddy! After months of buzz, HBO's Liberace biopic, "Behind the Candelabra," finally premiered this past weekend, and boy did it glitter! The Steven Soderbergh-directed film—starring Michael Douglas as the legendary blinged-out piano player and Matt Damon as his bisexual boy toy, Scott Thorson—scored the network's highest ratings in over a decade, proving that explicitly gay stories are more than bankable. We were one of the 2.4 million viewers who tuned in, and we loved it! If you haven't caught it yet, or are on the fence about handing over two hours of your life to a movie about some old queen, we've compiled 10 reasons why it's definitely worth your time.

1. It Could Be a First
We still wonder sometimes about "Chico and the Man," but we'll go out on a limb and say that "BTC" is probably the first time ever a gay daddy/son relationship has been featured on the small screen. And boy, is it a good one! Oscar-nominated screenwriter Richard LaGravenese's script doesn't shy away from anything, candidly showing the universal ups and downs every couple goes through: passion, love, below-the-belt jabs, recurring arguments, and even lazy afternoons just vegging out on the couch.

2. Matt Damon In a Speedo
It's not hard to see why Liberace was so bedazzled by Thorson—he clearly had the complete, uh, package.

MISTER Carl Sandler on Sirius XM Radio

A friend in need is a friend indeed, especially when it’s 2:00 in the morning, you’re horny, and that friend lives just 5 minutes away. Hey, we’re all about friends with benefits, but what if those perks involved more than just a post-shag baby wipe and a pat on the butt as you headed out the door to go back home? You know, real benefits, like engaging conversation, shared interests, and a shoulder to lean on when you’re down in the dumps?

Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, for many of us, those types of relationships just don’t exist. Let's face it, as gay men, we live in a culture where making “friends” means firing up an app, “networking” is code for getting naked, and hooking up is the new handshake—all of which make it difficult to cultivate deep and meaningful friendships with one another that aren’t rooted in sexual attraction or superficiality. The truth is we need to have these friendships, especially as we get older, but in this age of instant gratification, are we willing to buddy up with someone we don’t want to sleep with?

The answer is yes—that is, if you’re willing to make the effort. In his latest appearance on Sirius OutQ’s “The Morning Jolt” radio show, our resident den daddy, MISTER CEO Carl Sandler, sat down with host Larry Flick to talk about the importance of friendships and offered up some tried-and-true tips on how you can develop them, deepen them, and put them to bed (pun intended!) when they’re not working for you.

Fétiche Armada Co-Founder Ghislain Rousseau

MISTER recently had the pleasure of meeting Ghislain Rousseau, Co-Founder of Fétiche Armada in Montreal and he charmed us with his casual quebeqouis accent, warm demenour and comfortable manliness. We got to talking about his love for leather culture and he easily motivated us to sponsor their upcoming event over Labor Day Weekend! We are really excited to return to Montreal and meet more of our Canadian users.

Here is a little Q&A with Ghislain and then we'd like to know what's your fetish and why in the comments below. See you in Montreal!

MISTER: What is Fétiche Armada?

Ghislain: Fétiche Armada started 3 years ago, when my husband, Benoit, and I decided one night that Montreal needed more fetish/leather parties. We created it as a promoter of events for the city and have been throwing parties ever since (every two months).

Next, we opened the store on Rue Ste-Catherine in the Village, the gay area of Montreal. We recognized there was an evolution in the kinds of gear people were seeking out - stuff that we couldn’t find locally. So we started partnering with the best fetish houses in the world, such as Mister B, E7-Gear, OxBalls, 665 Leather, and our own private label… One Man Armada.

We believe that no matter what your experience or your kink, respect is paramount. Whether you are a newbie or a long time experienced kinkster, you will be taken as you are and we will teach and learn from you.

Misters Join Daddies and Hunters: We’re Going Poly

We know many of you are into threesomes. They can freshen things up and add some spice to a relationship. And they are just damn fun for single guys. This week we’re introducing a third. Please join us in welcoming Misters.

What’s a Mister?

  • Anyone who joined through the MISTER mobile app

  • Anyone who isn't quite sure if they are a Daddy or a Hunter

For years, we’ve heard from many new users that they don’t feel like they fit into either category. Rather than forcing someone to pick a category right away, members can now choose Mister*.

Think three’s a crowd? That’s OK too. You can still do a basic search by profile type for the man (or men) you want.

Try it out for a bit. Let us know what you think.

As always, thanks for the great feedback.

MISTER 1.1 launches today for iPhone and we've got a buttload of new features just for you. Not only that, but v1.1 debuts MISTER MAGNUM, our new premium service. We’ll tell you more about the MAGNUM features on a future post. For now, let’s focus on the free stuff.

Age Filter

MISTER gives you a lot of options already, like sorting the men in your area by Last Login or Proximity. Then there's the different views: seeing your favorites (up to 99!!), who's viewed you and the global view. In this version, you can zoom in a little more and focus on guys just in your desired age demo.

We hear from lots of you (thanks!) and everyone’s looking for something different. Some want older, some younger, and some vary their taste from hour to hour. Using the Age Filter under Settings, you can customize your view to show the guys you’re looking for at that moment. For members who have specific tastes, it lets you zero in on what you want. For the rest of us, it’s a fun way to see an endless array of men of different ages simply by switching up your filter.

Age Preference

Age Preference lets you broadcast the guys you’re into. It lives on your profile so whenever people pull you up, they’ll know what you like. We want to encourage members to keep things broad - or you might miss a great experience! - and require at least a ten year range.

Delete Messages

We received many, many requests for this feature. You can now press on a message and slide to the right to delete it, letting you focus on the conversations you’re...

The Psychology Behind Opposers of Same Sex Marriage

Written by guest writer, Audrina Benson.

In the aftermath of the May 8th election in North Carolina, voters were reminded once again of one of the most pressing issues in social policy today - same sex marriage. Though the amendment was passed, effectively only ending recognition of civil unions and other domestic partnerships since gay marriage was already banned in the state, Obama became the first American president to support gay marriage. If Obama’s views can, as he says, “evolve,” why can’t so many Americans?

Studies have shown that people who are outspokenly against gay marriage are affected more viscerally by images they perceive as off-putting. This could imply that homophobia and opponents of same sex marriage are prone to a knee jerk reaction; rather than further investigating the unfamiliar, they react off first impressions.

Probably the most influential element of psychology at play with those who vote against gay marriage is “motivated reasoning.” Because of indoctrination into intolerance, as well as the aforementioned visceral reaction, they look for emotional reasons to validate their opinions. In the end, the facts don’t matter - gay and lesbian parents are as fitting of parents as heterosexual parents; the legalization of same sex marriage in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont has not unraveled the fibers of traditional marriage. What matters is a passionate defense to the...
