MISTER Carl Sandler on Sirius XM Radio

A friend in need is a friend indeed, especially when it’s 2:00 in the morning, you’re horny, and that friend lives just 5 minutes away. Hey, we’re all about friends with benefits, but what if those perks involved more than just a post-shag baby wipe and a pat on the butt as you headed out the door to go back home? You know, real benefits, like engaging conversation, shared interests, and a shoulder to lean on when you’re down in the dumps?

Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, for many of us, those types of relationships just don’t exist. Let's face it, as gay men, we live in a culture where making “friends” means firing up an app, “networking” is code for getting naked, and hooking up is the new handshake—all of which make it difficult to cultivate deep and meaningful friendships with one another that aren’t rooted in sexual attraction or superficiality. The truth is we need to have these friendships, especially as we get older, but in this age of instant gratification, are we willing to buddy up with someone we don’t want to sleep with?

The answer is yes—that is, if you’re willing to make the effort. In his latest appearance on Sirius OutQ’s “The Morning Jolt” radio show, our resident den daddy, MISTER CEO Carl Sandler, sat down with host Larry Flick to talk about the importance of friendships and offered up some tried-and-true tips on how you can develop them, deepen them, and put them to bed (pun intended!) when they’re not working for you.

PrEP

We've talked about this a few times this year, but I'm continually amazed at how much more open we are about discussing what it means to date and have sex in an HIV+ world. It's been an ongoing conversation, but what's beginning to change is the way in which we're talking about it. The stigma of having HIV, both within our own community and the world at large, is shrinking by the day. Due in part to the candor from both sides that we've seen in the media and the ever changing face of HIV medications. Big Daddy Carl, has written an incredibly thorough article over at the Huffington Post about pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, which, when taken daily by an HIV- person, can reduce the risk of transmission to that of using a condom.

There are many things to consider when you look at the merits of something like PrEP, which Carl outlines explicitly, but it begs the question of why this information isn't more readily available to the public. Let's face it, there will always be risk when it comes to gay sex, but would something preventative like taking a pill everyday make you feel safer? Or as a community that has been indoctrinated with the importance of condom use, are condoms the one and only protection against HIV? In an ideal world we'd all be using condoms and taking PrEP, but as you'll read there are obstacles preventing that from happening at this point in time.

I urge you all to ...

Daddyhunt CEO Featured in the Huffington Post

Our excitement for the MISTER app just keeps growing with every passing download and we just want to shout it from the rooftops. Or in this case, the Huffington Post. Check out this great article Daddyhunt CEO and MISTER founder, Carl Sandler wrote on the current state of things in the mobile dating arena. He discusses the rampant ageism and disrespect that currently fuels so many apps and explains why the MISTER app was created to circumvent that kind of behavior.

He makes some really good points, many of which you'll no doubt have some thoughts on. So go ahead and start the convo in the comments below.
