Even though Philadelphia ranks as one of America’s most populous cities, gay life in Philly is centered around just one area of the city. Even though the community isn’t as large as in other cities of comparable size, it still attracts gay visitors from the US and abroad. Gay life in this city is concentrated in the “Gayborhood” a small section of the city that was once Philadelphia’s red-light district. It later became the city’s home for artists and actors and from that the Gayborhood grew to what it is today.

Since gay life in Philadelphia revolves around one area there is a good mix of Daddies and Hunters in the Gayborhood. Different bars and clubs in the area give off different atmospheres depending on your taste in men. For the relatively small number of gay bars in Philadelphia, many draw an older crowd. Daddies frequent bars like Uncle’s in the heart of the area, Tavern on Camac is also popular with an older crowd and is one of the oldest gay bars in the city. The Hunter Inn is a bar/restaurant that attracts many Daddies at the bar and is accommodating to men of all ages in the restaurant.

Hunters will also stay occupied in the city with bars where they can meet other guys their own age along with ones where they can meet Daddies. Woody's is a popular gay bar in the city that draws crowds of all types. The Westbury has a good crowd of young guys as well as Daddies and Bears.

Bears are also welcome in Philly. Bars like The Bike Stop attract Bears. Bars such as Woody’s and Uncle’s are also Bear friendly.
